[SlawKaus] Feldforschungskurs

Liebe Studierende,

in diesem und im nächsten Semester machen wir einen experimentellen Kurs 
- gemeinsam mit Studierenden und Dozierenden von drei Universitäten in 
Lemberg (L'viv) und Kyiv werden wir uns mit sprachwissenschaftlicher 
Feldforschung und Korpuserstellung beschäftigen. Es ist geplant, im 
kommenden Frühjahr dazu auch eine gemeinsame Feldforschungsreise zu 
unternehmen.

Wir werden in dem Seminar uns u.A. mit dem Projekt eines Korpus von 
ukrainischen Dialekten beschäftigen, werden aber auch mit Korpora zum 
Belarussischen, RUssischen und Polnischen arbeiten. Ergebnis des Kurses 
wird u.A. eine Überarbeitung der von uns verantworteten Infrastruktur zu 
diesen Korpora sein.

bitte oder kommen direkt ins Seminar. Ob Sie das Seminar anrechnen 
lassen können, muss man prüfen - garantiert jedoch ist der Lernerfolg. *

Leistungsnachweis wird i.d.R. die Bearbeitung eines 
variationslinguistischen Themas anhand eines der Korpora (s.o.) umfassen.

Ich kopiere hier kurz den geplanten Kursinhalt hinein  - tatsächlich 
verschiebt sich das gerade alles, da wir hier auch die Studienpläne der 
Partneruniversitäten mit einbeziehen wollen.

In this 4-hour course composed of Seminar and Übung, we will

  * cover the basics of variationist sociolinguistics and dialectology
  * conduct sociolinguistic/dialectological interviews
  * build a searchable small corpus that will be published on the web
  * do research using this and existing corpora into linguistic variation

The course will be taught mostly in English (depending on participants 
we may switch to German where appropriate).

In this course, we will have guest students and lecturers from Ukraine’s 
UKU in L’viv, NaUKMA in Kyiv, as well as from Cracow, Poland financed by 
the DAAD.

The approximate plan is the following. The language specific parts are 
to be adapted depending on the attendants:

  * Week 1-4: isoglosses, dialectal variation, overview of dialectal
    divisions of East Slavic (Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian)  - on the
    basis of the literature, with active use of corpora to get a
    hands-on-impression
  * Week 5-8: dialectal and sociolinguistic variation and how to study
    it in a corpus?- we will read classics of the variationist paradigm
    (Labov) and study select features in a corpus. Language and
    identity, sociolinguistic perspective
  * Week 9-11: principles of data base integrity, devising a corpus
    structure, using automatic transcription
  * Week 12-14: corpus testing, progress reports, discussions of results
    of individual research projects

Depending on the participants, we may include a field trip to Lithuania 
or Slovakia to conduct some interviews ourselves. However, most of the 
work will be done using existing texts/corpora.
