Corpus data is used to show when and how this change occurred. The discussion addresses the probable causes, contributing factors, and problematic aspects concerning the formation and use of these nouns. Several specific cases are examined in the light of survey and corpus data. The controversy triggered by this phenomenon in the Ukrainian linguistic circles and society at large is analyzed.
Bio: Dr. Vasyl Starko is an Associate Professor at the Department of Philology, Ukrainian Catholic University.
