<span style="font-size:12.0pt">In seinem Essay „<i>The Art of Translation</i>“ (1941) spricht Vladimir Nabokov von „drei Stufen des Bösen“, die bei der Übertragung von Texten von einer Sprache in die andere festgestellt werden können und überhöht die oftmals
als banal betrachtete Tätigkeit des Übersetzens als quasi-religiöse. Jenen, die wissentlich den sakrosankten Originaltext durch ihre Übersetzung sozusagen verfälschen, droht die Höchststrafe, sie befinden sich auf dem Weg in die Übersetzer-Hölle, in der
sie nach Nabokovs Willen womöglich auf ewig zu schmoren haben. Aber sind Übersetzungen nicht immer Verfälschungen? Ist es überhaupt möglich, „dasselbe mit anderen Worten zu sagen“, wie eine gängige Definition des Übersetzens lautet?<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<span style="font-size:12.0pt">Der Emigrant Vladimir Nabokov, der als Schriftsteller einen Sprachwechsel vollzog, hat auch selbst übersetzt. Am Beispiel von Alexander Puschkins „Evgenij Onegin“ in Nabokovs Übersetzung und seiner eigenen Übersetzung seines
Romans „Lolita“ ins Russische sowie der Geschichte der Übersetzung des Romans ins Deutsche möchte ich im Rahmen der Übersetzungs-Gastdozentur Fragen stellen wie: „Was ist der neue Ansatz der Übersetzung Nabokovs?“, „Wie hat sich die Auffassung davon, was
Übersetzung ist, kann und darf, im Laufe der Zeit verändert?“, „Sind die unterschiedlichen Ansätze des Übersetzens – wörtlich-verfremdend vs. lesbar-einbürgernd – überholt?“.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<span style="font-size:12.0pt">Neben der Erörterung übersetzungstheoretischer Fragen soll durch praktische Übersetzungsarbeit an unterschiedlichen Textausschnitten mit genauem Blick für das Original und die stilistischen Eigenheiten des Textes ein Bewusstsein
dafür vermittelt werden, was übersetzen heißt, und mit welchen Schwierigkeiten man dabei konfrontiert ist.
