<p class="MsoNormal">Die Bundestiftung Aufarbeitung führt ab Februar 2021 bis Mai 2022 gemeinsam mit dem Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für die Neuen Bundesländer die Veranstaltungsreihe „Transitional Justice“ durch. In zehn Veranstaltungen werden anhand
verschiedener Länderbeispiele die unterschiedlichen Formen und Aspekte von gesellschaftlichen und rechtlichen Aufarbeitungsprozessen nach Krieg, Gewaltherrschaft und Diktatur(en) vorgestellt. Moderiert wird die Reihe von Tamina Kutscher, Chefredakteurin von
dekoder.org.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:10.0pt;line-height:115%">Die fünfte Veranstaltung „Zwischen Befreiung und Beeinflussung – Vom Umgang mit der sowjetischen Besatzung im heutigen Kaukasus“ rückt den Fokus auf die Staaten Georgien, Aserbaidschan und Armenien.
2020 kam es erneut zu bewaffneten Konflikten um das seit Jahrzehnten von Armenien und Aserbaidschan umkämpfte Gebiet Bergkarabach. Russland machte infolgedessen durch die Entsendung russischer Friedenstruppen ins Kampfgebiet erneut seinen Einfluss auf die
beiden ehemaligen Sowjetrepubliken geltend. Auch Georgien muss sich seit mehr als 30 Jahren mit den abtrünnigen Regionen Abchasien und Südossetien und den damit verbunden russischen Einfluss auseinandersetzen. Spannungen um die Konfliktgebiete im Südkaukasus
zeigen, wie angespannt die Beziehungen zwischen den Staaten sind und wie groß die russische Einflusssphäre bis heute in dieser Region ist. Wie beeinflusst das Verhältnis zu Russland die Motivation zur Aufarbeitung der sowjetischen Vergangenheit? Welche Initiativen
der Transitional Justice gibt es? Und in welchem Verhältnis stehen sie zur aktuellen Politik in den besagten Ländern? Welchen Einfluss übt dabei die politische Führung auf die Aufarbeitungsprozesse aus?<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">The discussion is part of the series of events entitled "Transitional Justice" which is organized by the Federal Government Commissioner for the New Federal States and the Federal Foundation for the Study of the Communist
Dictatorship in Eastern Germany from February 2021 to May 2022. In ten events, the various forms and aspects of social and legal processes of coming to terms with the past after war, tyranny and dictatorship(s) will be examined through various country examples.
The series will be moderated by Tamina Kutscher, editor-in-chief of dekoder.org.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">The fifth event "Between Liberation and Influence—Dealing with the Soviet Occupation in Contemporary Caucasus" will focus on the states of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. In 2020, armed conflicts broke out again over
the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which has been disputed by Armenia and Azerbaijan for decades. As a result, Russia reasserted its influence over the two former Soviet republics by sending Russian peacekeepers to the combat zone. For more than 30 years, Georgia
has also had to deal with the breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and the associated Russian influence. Tensions around the conflict areas in the South Caucasus show how tense relations between the states are and how large the Russian sphere of
influence remains in this region to this day. How does the relationship with Russia influence the motivation to deal with the Soviet past? What transitional justice initiatives are there? And how do they relate to current politics in the countries in question?
What influence does the political leadership exert on the processes of coming to terms with the past?<o:p></o:p></span></p>
