Dear Prof. Dr. Ruprecht von Waldenfels,

I kindly ask you to share information about the Summer School ‘Traces of
the past and prospects for the future: Linguistic and cultural practices
in Estonia’ with your Slavic studies students.

The Summer School will take place from 2 to 10 July 2026 in Tartu at the
Estonian Literary Museum. The School will be conducted in Russian and
will include daily language workshops and lectures on Estonian culture,
as well as excursions and meetings with Russian-speaking residents of
Tartu.

After the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine and the Russian
authorities' attempt to appropriate the Russian language, Slavicists and
Russianists were faced with the problem of language practice for
students. The summer school offers a solution to this problem. Although
Estonian is the official language of the Republic of Estonia, many
Estonian residents speak Russian, and for 24% of the population, Russian
is their native language, making Estonia an excellent place to practise
language skills and acquire new knowledge.

Located north of many European countries, Estonia has mild summers
without the exhausting heat.

The Summer School is organised in collaboration with the Jagiellonian
University, the Catholic University of Milan and the E-Campus University.

The Summer School's website is here:
https://www.folklore.ee/rl/fo/konve/2026/summer_school/

I am also sending you a file with the School's presentation.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

On behalf of the entire multinational team of organisers,

Sergey Troitskiy,

Estonian Literary Museum
