From bexis2-users at listserv.uni-jena.de Fri Dec 22 18:13:09 2023 From: bexis2-users at listserv.uni-jena.de (bexis2-users at listserv.uni-jena.de) Date: Fri, 22 Dec 2023 18:13:09 +0100 Subject: [BEXIS2-Users] BEXIS2 version 3.0.0-beta Message-ID: Dear all, we are happy to announce we released *BEXIS2 version 3.0.0-beta* today, in the last hours of the last working day this year! It was a side project over more than one year and our main for the last half year. Confronted with more and more wishes and issues, we could not fulfill within the current structure and used UI framework, we decided to start changing and exchanging certain components and libraries slowly. We are now in a stage where the fundament for all remaining refactoring tasks is set, and certain areas are changed and enhanced with new or improved features and workflows. We also introduced, as well as possible within our limited resources, scrum to organize our work and make current tasks more transparent for all. There are many changed things you will not see as a user. This includes, for example, the update of certain libraries in the backend, code consolidation, introduction of unit tests, refactoring of the way of communication with the frontend, and setting up automated workflows for executing unit tests, setting up our test instance and build workflow for releases and new instances. We also maintain a library for common UI elements to prevent elements from differing too much in functionality and shape. As a user of BEXIS2, you will find changes related to the settings, creation, editing, and upload workflow for datasets. Settings that previously required server access are now accessible for admins via the UI. Few settings related to datasets bound to the whole instance are now moved to groups of entities (digital objects), e.g., the visibility of certain tabs. Creating new datasets no longer requires users to be aware of which metadata schema they have to choose, as those things can be predefined together with other settings by admins. The previously existing workflows of importing data have been merged into one, keeping the best of both with a free choice for the user with what they want to start with or change to pass the improved validation process.
