Hello,

this is my first and most likely not the last mail to this list.
Am I right in assuming that the language of conversation is English (the settings of the mailing list offer only "Deutsch")?

I am trying to get into the definition of data structures.

To start with Data Types:
1. Is there a way to see how a data type is defined? E.g., what is the actual format meant with "date"?
2. If I want to define a new data type (say pureDate) that is only a date without time, is there a way to prescribe its format, e.g. using a regular expression like "\d{4}-\d\d-\d\d"? Else I am stuck with a generic string, right?

Second: Units.
1. Is there a formal way to relate units? In the description of mm I see "A length unit which is equal to one thousandth of a meter or 10^[-3] m." Does the system "know" about this? Is this automatically taken into consideration when I am comparing values? In other words, would it mean exactly the same if I am working with cm or mm, if I get the decimals right?

2. Actually, I see only "A length unit which i…" which is one of the problems of the format of the table. Can this be fixed by giving more room to the "Description" column while cutting back on most of the other columns?

3. What kind of a unit is a "Fraction"?

Cheers from Salzburg
Thomas
